Although it is a small town in high demand, you can find great budget accommodations and hostels in Sintra, Portugal in 2023.
Sintra is a great day trip from Lisbon, but really in order to see it properly, you need more than one day.
Many reviewers of these properties said that Sintra is the perfect place to unwind, and they wish that they had stayed longer.

Nice Way Hostel is a 5-minute walk from the National Palace and overlooks both the Moorish Castle and Quinta da Regaleira.
The hostel has a fully equipped kitchen and a great garden to relax in.
Beds in the nine-bed dorm are €14.62 per night. All dorm beds come with a private shelf and a reading light.

Or from the airport, you can take the metro to Restauradores station, and switch lines on São Sebastião.
From Restauradores, take the train to Sintra, which is the last stop.
The hostel is A 10-minute walk from the train station.

Casa Azul Hostel is a vibrant, colorful building with hardwood floors. The owner is welcoming, knowledgeable, and keeps a very clean house.
Located in the neighborhood of Estefania, next to the Museum of Modern Art and Olga Cadaval Cultural Centre.
The hostel is also close to several restaurants, a municipal market, and a small supermarket.
The train station and the bus station are also nearby. Casa Azul offers private rooms and dorms.
The hostel is one of the best budget options in Sintra. Beds in the six-person dorm go for €16 per night.
The two-person private room is €42 per night, and the private room with three single beds is €52 per night.
The hostel has free parking and laundry facilities. Towels, adaptors, and lockers are provided. Bunk beds are made from recycled wood and have a reading light.

The hostel is much closer to the beach than to the center of Sintra.
Coming from the Lisbon airport take the metro three stops to the Oriente train station, and from there take the train to Sintra Portela.
Once in Sintra, take the 444 bus.
Oasis Backpackers offers opportunities for horseback riding on the beach, learning to surf, yoga, tours of the Sintra palaces, jeep offroading tours, and walks along the coast.

With a 9.4 rating on booking, a Hostel Geek award for best hostels in Portugal 2021, a superb Hostelworld rating of 9.8, and known as an Airbnb super host, the Five House must be doing something right.
The Cynthia room is a double room with a shared bathroom.
The cozy room is decorated with photos of Sentra.
The red umbrella room is also a double room with a shared bathroom.
In the attic, you will find Flora’s dorm, with three single beds on each side of a living room that separates the two areas.
One of the most unique experiences I have come across at a hostel is their Historic Portrait Making workshop.
Both of the owners of the hostel are photographers.
For between €30 and €50, you will have your portrait made using one of the oldest photography processes, wet plate collodion, and you will get to experience the process of developing the pictures.
They also offer a Cyanotype workshop. In this three-hour workshop, you will learn the handmade photographic printing process which was developed in 1842. You will learn the Cyanotype technique and create blue images of Sintra on fabric or paper.
This workshop is €30.
Sintra is a magical foggy village, with his castles nestled in the mountains and forests.
For €200 you can do a photoshoot, where are you are guided to various picturesque locations in Sintra.
The hostel offers bike rentals as well as guided mountain bike tours from 4 to 7 hours.
You can choose to ride the Sentra cascades trail from Sentra and pass Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point in Europe on the way to the town of Cascais.
Experienced riders can opt to do the best trails starting on Praia do Guincho and going up into the Sintra mountains.
Another option is the Sintra-Ericeira trail which combines farm country and the rugged Atlantic coastline.
