12 Lisbon Beach Hostels – shared dorms and private rooms

If you are in Lisbon on a budget and want to be near the beach, here are 12 hostels on beaches near Lisbon, at Carcavelos Beach, Estoril, and the beautiful Costa da Caparica.  Prices start at $15 per night.

Hostels at Carcavelos Beach

Carcavelos Surf Hostel

Carcavelos Surf Hostel is a two-story house with room for 22 guests.

They have dorms for 2 to 6 people, as well as private rooms. The hostel is two blocks from the beach and two blocks from the Lisbon Surf Camp. 

Private rooms are going for €40 per night, and dorms are €15 per night.

They offer surf packages as well.

During the high season, two lessons, and a two-night stay with breakfast is €240.

The beginner surf package is five nights, five breakfasts, one dinner, and three surf lessons for €500.

They also offer a weeklong beginner surf package which includes lodging for seven nights, seven breakfasts, dinner barbecue, and five surf lessons for €740.

The hostel has a 1000 square meter garden with a pool and barbecue, and a terrace with views of the ocean. 

According to TripAdvisor, the car Carcavelos Surf Hostel is the number one option for alternative lodging in Carcavelos.

Terrace Beach House

Terrace Beach House has one large 6 person dorm, one twin room, two private rooms with a double bed, and two large family rooms.  The living room features a PlayStation, and the third floor is a terrace where you can practice yoga or check out the sunset.

The hostel is 150 yards from the beach, 200 yards from the grocery store, where are you can purchase food to cook in their large kitchen.

The shared family room with a shared bathroom is $98.

The twin bed private room with a shared bath is also $98  breakfast is included in the price.

A double room or a twin room with a private bath is $46 per night. 

Beds in the six-bed dormitory are $17 per night.

Every guest has their own locker, as well as access to the kitchen in the pool.

The hostel also has laundry facilities.

Nice Way Cascais organizes surfing classes, cliff diving, happy hours, social dinners, and bicycle rental.

Surfing lessons are every day, last two hours, and cost €35.

A double bed with a shared bath is €60 per night.  A bed in the six bed mixed dorm is €22 euros per night. 

The five-bed mixed dorm is also €22 per night.  

This air-conditioned hostel provides lockers for guests, has a laundry facility, and breakfast is included.  

They have surf packages, stand-up paddleboard packages, kitesurfing packages, and yoga packages.

The stand-up paddleboard package includes seven nights of lodging and five hours of board rental per day. 

In the high season from June 1 – October 1, €253 staying in a twin or a double with a shared bathroom. 

If you are staying in a dorm, the package is €214.

Surf lessons in the high season, If you are staying in a twin or double room – two lessons and 3 nights lodging  for €133, four lessons and 3 nights lodging for €162.  

Stay in a dorm for three nights plus two surf lessons for €116, four lessons for €146.

Lessons are 1 1/2 hours per day and can be basic or intensive.

Kitesurfing packages during the month of May:  six nights in a twin or double room plus six hours of kite surfing – €690. 

Six nights in the dorm plus six hours of kite surfing €330. From June to October, the rates change to €810 and €390.  

With the Yoga package Weekend, classes are held at Parque Marechal Carmona, the beach, and Boca do Inferno – the rock formation on the Atlantic Ocean.

The room has one double bed and one bunk bed and a private bathroom.

There is a double ensuite room with a mini-fridge and private bath for €80 per night.

Double ensuite attic rooms come with a private balcony with lounge chairs and views.  The rooms have low ceilings.  €80.

Double room with a shared bathroom and double bed. €60.

If you are looking for a good time, you can find it here.  The bar sometimes features live music.  

They also offer a great, central location, a free continental breakfast, and a terrace overlooking the ocean.

Eight bed mixed dorm with air-conditioning, lockers, two large windows with an ocean view and a shared bathroom is $21 per night. 

The four-bed mixed dorm is $25 per night.

The double or twin room is $64 per night, and the family room with four single beds, a seating area,  and a private bath is $102 per night.

Free Spirit House Cascais Surf and Yoga Retreat

The hostel is a little away from the beach, but they offer a shuttle to the beach once per day, as well as free transportation for any watersports lessons. 

They are located 1.6 miles from the train station, and 3.5 miles from Praia do Guincho. 

Buses 409 and 417 stop five minutes away from the house and are a ten-minute ride to the center of town.

Also, there is free parking outside if you have a rental car.

The Free Spirit House has a fully equipped kitchen, a beautiful garden, a swimming pool, and a bar.

They also have laundry facilities. 

They organize barbecues once or twice a week.  

Other options include surf and yoga lessons,  hiking, rock climbing, kite surfing, surf video analysis.  You can use the skateboards, the darts, the drones, or the slackline.

The hostel is a little away from the beach, but they offer a shuttle to the beach once per day, as well as free transportation for any watersports lessons.

From September to April, the hostel is a co-living space and coworking space with monthly rent.

In September, bunk beds go for €650 per month, while private rooms are €1200. 

From October until April, the rates drop to €400 per month for a bunk, and €700 for a private room.

Surf packages are €300 for ten lessons.  Each lesson lasts two and a half hours and includes transportation, wetsuit rental, and board rental.

Individual lessons are open to all levels and cost €35 per two-hour lesson. 

Lessons take place at Carcavelos Beach or Guincho Beach, depending on conditions. 

Transportation, instruction, board, and wetsuit are included.

Allie and Ricardo have opened their beach house to other travelers. 

The hostel, located a three-minute walk from the beach, has a pool, an outdoor bar, a barbeque, and a wood-fired pizza oven.

Indoors, you will find a fireplace. 

Breakfast is included, and coffee and tea are available all day.  

They organize affordable surf classes, dinners and barbeques, day tours and camping tours, shuttles to and from Lisbon and the airport, and laundry services, as well as free bicycle use. 

Lockers are available.

7 Waves has two large dorms, a small female dorm, and two private rooms.

Located five minutes on foot to the beach, 10 minutes to the business district, and only three minutes from bus connections to Lisbon, Caparica Poshtel has a great location.  

Private twin room with ensuite bathroom is $62 per night.  The six bedroom mixed dorm is $31 per night.

They offer spaceous private and shared rooms with  Air conditioning, hot showers, laundry facility, bicycle and towel rental.

The ten-bed mixed dorm is $23 per night.  The eight bed mixed dorm is $28 per night. 

Four bed mixed dorms are $34 per night. 

Mr. Ziggy’s Surf House

A surf-themed hostel a few blocks from the beach (Praia CDS). Mr. Ziggy’s Surf House has room for 17 guests.

Each bed is its own curtained alcove.

Six-bedroom dorms go for $23 per night.

The hostel has lockers, an outdoor pool and a large yard with a patio.

They hold weekly barbecues, trips to Lisbon, surfing lessons, bodyboarding lessons, standup paddle lessons, and yoga.

Breakfast is included.

How to get to Lisbon’s beach hostels

In order to get from the Lisbon Airport to any of the hostels in Estoril, or Cascais, take the metro from the airport. 

You can buy a Metro Viva Viagem card and put a cash balance on the card. 

Switch to the metro green line at Alameda Station, and head to Cais de Sodré. 

At Cais de Sodré, switch to the Comboios train toward Cascais. 

Cascais is the last stop. 

The Comboios train costs €2. 

This can be deducted from the Viva Viagem card.

In order to get from the Lisbon Airport to any of the hostels in Costa da Caparica, take the metro from the airport. 

Switch to the metro green line at Alameda Station, and head to Cais de Sodré. 

At Cais de Sodré, switch to the ferry 

The ferry costs €1.25. 

On the other side of the river, the ferry docks at the TST bus terminal in Cacilhas.

The ferry can also be paid out of your Viva Viagem card.

At the back of the lot, you will find TST bus 135 (20 minutes to beach) and bus 124 (40 minutes to same beach). 

Pay cash for the ticket €2.40. Viva Viagem card is not accepted by TST.
