What to expect at Miradouro do Jardim do Torel
Jardim do Torel (Torel Garden) Sits on a hill overlooking Avenida the Liberdade and central Lisbon.
The garden is named after the Dutch Thorel Family who built a mansion nearby in 1750. In the 1920s the Portuguese judicial police headquarters operated out of another mansion on the edge of the garden.
You can enter Jardim doTorel on Rua Júlio de Andrade or on Rua do Telhal.
There are two levels at the Miradorouro Jardim do Torel. The upper level has green space, great for a picnic or romantic meeting, and a terrace with views of the Rua Augusta Arch, the elevator of Santa Justa, Avenida da Liberdade, and the Miradouro of San Pedro de Alcântara on the opposite hillside.
From the terrace, stairs lead below to another area with a swimming pool, a children’s playground, a library, and a café.
Jardim do Torel is something of a secret garden in Lisbon. There are never more than a handful of people visiting, it is a peaceful place to relax and gaze at the city below.
Hours and Admission for Miradouro do Jardim do Torel
The Miradouro do Jardim do Torel is free to the public, but it is gated, and it is only open between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm
How to get to Miradouro Jardim do Torel
Take the Elevador do Lavra. Locate the Hard Rock Cafe on Avenida da Liberdade. Go into the alley next to the Hard Rock Cafe, turn left. At the end of the block, the Elevador do Lavra will be on your right. Ride the Elevador to the top of the hill. Exit and go left. Go left again. Look for the second entrance.
