Is Miradouro do Recolhimento the best view in Lisbon? There are so many to choose from, and this little-known scenic viewpoint could be the best.
Jardim do Recolhimento is not well-known to tourists, but the little children’s playground might have some of the best views in Lisbon.
I think it is the best viewpoint in Lisbon for several reasons.
Given the elevation, you have fantastic views of Alfama and the Tejo River. You get a good look at both the National Pantheon and the São Vicente de Fora Monastery and church.
You can even use this hexagonal sculpture to frame the view from a different perspective for your photos and Instagram shots.
The small park has playground equipment, stationary bikes for kids, benches, and picnic tables in the shade. The Miradouro do Recolhimento is a great place to relax, as you might have it all to yourself.
As it is a children’s playground, alcohol and dogs are prohibited.
How to get to the Miradouro do Recolhimento viewpoint
In order to get here, go to Castelo de São Jorge. Enter through the castle gate and approach the ticket office.
Immediately after passing the gate, you will notice a narrow staircase on your right that leads up to the castle shops.
Just past the shops and the staircase is a lane to your right. Take this lane.
Take a left as soon as you can.
Go uphill slightly and turn right at Beco do Recolhimento. You will notice a portrait of a local woman on the wall to your right.
At the end of the lane, you will see a five-story pink and white tiled building. Turn to your right and see the entrance of the park before you reach the tile building. Go through the gate and enjoy.
